This has ignited a discourse online with social media users expressing their thoughts on the said issue.

One user wrote, “The overdressed in abroad discourse shows how classist a lot of Filipinos are. Imagine bringing down someone for dressing up. Calling someone social climber just because they’re ‘over’ dressed abroad. Let them be. Let them enjoy. You do you.”

“Imagine dami niyong kuda sa mga Filipino travelers na overdressed sa airports eh ang daming problema ng bansa. Buhay nga naman [Imagine you have a lot to say to Filipino travelers that are overdressed at airports, the country has so many problems. Life is like that],” a second user wrote.

A third user wrote, “People are fighting just because of ‘overdressing’ Come on, natapakan ba pagkatao nyo nung nag OOTD sila [Come on, did your personality get stepped on when they did OOTD].”

Drag queen Eva Le Queen even jumped into the discussion and wrote, “May bago nanaman tayong national issue. Over dress lang mga nak [We have a new national issue. Just over dress guys]! Slay! The world is your runway! Hindi totoong Filipino travelers are overdressers. Ang totoo, Pinoy lang ang ganto mag isip sa kapwa nilang pinoy at yun ang nakakatrigger. Truth be told, walang ibang may pake [It’s not true that Filipino travelers are overdressers. The truth is, only Pinoys think like this about their fellow Pinoys and that’s what triggers them. Truth be told, no one else cares].”

More social media users shared their thoughts on the said issue pointing out that there are a lot of other problems that are in need of solutions.
